Doug and Jane bought New Forest Farm Old Wives Lees 23 years ago and have spent many happy years there. They have a daughter and son, both educated in QEGS Faversham and later at Universities, and they have two grandsons. Doug is an Environmental and Energy Expert and has years of Industrial Experience. He currently works in his own practice for Government agencies, for the private sector in the UK & abroad, especially India and China. Doug will be able to bring hard industrial experience into his role in local government and support the specialist officers in ABC.
A Chartered Engineer & Chartered Scientist, with a professional interest to encourage & influence policy using ongoing University research & development in the environment and energy. Doug sees it as important to contribute to improving these issues for our grandchildren’s future. He will offer a supporting and proactive approach to green issues in ABC and sees this as a major area where he can support the good work of the Local Authority. Doug will strive to assist in raising standards in the built environment and, in general, environmental management issues, taking into account practical commercial policy at a time of national austerity.
Doug has a high interest in supporting the younger generation and has an active interest and track record in education, training and encouraging young people into profitable and effective employment and professional careers. He is also keen to see how the younger generation commence and continue to participate in local democracy including all the social opportunities that exist and are frequently neglected these days. Doug believes if one can get proactive participation at grass roots level, then a true representation of interests and improvements will be possible in our local and national society.
With a tough business background and environmental and general economic experience and accountability in large business the current savings impacting on everyone to a greater or lesser degree will be an area where a broader overview will be articulated to offer stability and growth.
The ageing population and improving facilities to provide communication and neighbourly support policies to increase care is a responsibility for everyone and the Authority and all assistance in that area will be a focus. Doug has a caring nature and will use his abilities to support his ward. In his spare time he spends it with his family and grandchildren and is a keen photographer.
