Tributes paid to Ashford Borough Council leader Peter Wood

Tributes have been paid to the leader Cllr Peter Wood of Ashford Borough Council, who has sadly passed away. Peter Wood, 63, died a week after temporarily stepping back from his day-to-day duties at the Kent authority to recover from a serious operation. Mr Wood, who lived in Aldington, had been leader of the Conservative-controlled council since 2010. The council said Mr Wood died on Friday night following a short illness.

New Deputy Leader nominated

Cllr Gerry Clarkson CBE has been nominated as the Deputy Leader of Ashford Borough Council. The Leader, Cllr Peter Wood, made the announcement at the council’s Executive Committee meeting on Thursday 10th February. The new deputy leader said: “I am delighted to be nominated for this important position as Deputy Leader of Ashford Borough Council. I will work with vigour to support the Leader and the Executive to deliver economic growth by job creation and not by centrally dictated housing growth.
