If you’re interested in politics or how you can influence what goes on in your community you’ll be aware that parliamentary, borough and parish elections are all being held on Thursday 7th May.
Prospective candidates in Ashford are being offered essential guidance on how to go about standing.
A helpful briefing for those considering standing is taking place on Wednesday 11th March, at 6.30pm in the council chamber at the Civic Centre. It will cover how to complete the various forms required and how the nomination process works for each particular election, along with detailing what the timetable is and the protocol for candidates.
This event is a useful refresher for candidates for re-election, election agents, and will be of particular interest to first-time candidates who may not already be aware of the procedure.
Run by Ashford Borough Council’s electoral services team, key officers including Returning Officer John Bunnett, will be available to talk to and run through the finer details.
John Bunnett said: “We like to run these events as the feedback is that these are popular and helpful not only to prospective candidates but agents and existing councillors who only come into contact with the process every few years.
“It’s free to come along and the advice is designed to make it easier for everyone who wishes to be a part of the elections in May.”
The last day to submit your nomination is Thursday 9th April 2015.
To advise the electoral service team that you intend to come along please email email@example.com If you want to pick up nomination packs on the evening then please also include the election and area so that these are ready to collect.
It is anticipated that the meeting will last around an-hour-and-a-half. Refreshments will be provided.
