Cllr Gerry Clarkson CBE has been nominated as the Deputy Leader of Ashford Borough Council. The Leader, Cllr Peter Wood, made the announcement at the council’s Executive Committee meeting on Thursday 10th February. The new deputy leader said: “I am delighted to be nominated for this important position as Deputy Leader of Ashford Borough Council. I will work with vigour to support the Leader and the Executive to deliver economic growth by job creation and not by centrally dictated housing growth.
“We have a new opportunity to represent the people we serve in a much more meaningful way. The people of Ashford understand organic growth brought about by economic development and job creation.
“In taking up this new challenging role within the Council, I will continue to work diligently to serve my constituents and the wider communities in Ashford.”
Cllr Clarkson will for the time being, also retain his position on the executive committee as portfolio holder for Environmental Services. The decision on the appointment of a new deputy council leader was taken by the full council on Thursday 17th February.
