Damian has been the Member of Parliament for Ashford since 1997, working hard for the town and the surrounding villages.
Following various Shadow Cabinet roles between 2001 and 2005 he was appointed Minister for Immigration and later Minister of State for Policing and Criminal Justice in the Coalition Government.
In 2016 he became the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and was the First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office from June 2017 until December 2017.
Damian is a former financial journalist and worked in the Prime Minister's Policy Unit from 1992-94. He contested Brent East in the 1992 General Election. He was educated at Reading School and Balliol College, Oxford. He was President of the Oxford Union in 1977. He is married with two daughters.
